Road trip – Part 2

Sorry for taking so long to post but there has been so many things going on lately that I haven’t had any time left over for my blog. But let’s continue on our road trip. Our second day in Germany with friends was spent “running errands”, e.g. hitting the local car wash, going on a test drive, etc. In the afternoon, me and hubby headed back to the nearby Königstein for lunch and a stroll around the city. In the evening we hit the “local” Zum Grünen Baum for dinner with our hosts.

The next morning it was time to hop in the car again and drive some 400 km to Brussels. We had a reservation at Hotel Atlas and the concierge had been kind enough to reserve a spot for us in their garage so we didn’t have to worry about parking. After settling in and relaxing for a while we headed out to dinner. We decided to eat at the fish market (Marché aux poisons) which was a stone’s throw from our hotel. The restaurant we picked was called Rugbyman No Two that has been serving seafood since 1969. We later realized we had been to this restaurant before a few years ago. We decided to try a set three course menu where you could choose from four starters, four mains and three desserts. I started with  a lobster bisque with Armagnac and hubby with raw salmon marinated with fresh herbs, the main was a half-lobster in the shell with two sauces and for dessert it was tiramisu with speculoos and a strawberry Melba cup. All in all, a nice dinner after which we headed to a near-by bar ViaVia to meet my niece. After a couple of beers it was time to head back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep in a lovely air-conditioned hotel room.

The following day we walked to the central train station hopped on a train and headed to Schaarbeek to visit Train World. Train World is a massive exhibition about rail transport housed in several buildings and we ended up spending a few hours walking around the museum. Then we took the train back to the central station and started looking for a place for lunch. We ended up at Balls & Glory, a meatball restaurant. I had a chicken ball filled with little pieces of apple and hubby had a pork ball filled with crispy bacon & chervil. Both were accompanied by salads. After lunch we checked out some stores. The night ended with dinner with my niece and her girlfriend at a vegetarian restaurant called Ami. We started with a Trio of spreads: black olive tapenade, chickpea hummus and tomato artichaunade. For our mains, me and hubby chose vegetarian burgers that were really delicious. The night ended with some beers at a hip bar in the same neighborhood as the restaurant.
