Road trip – Part 3

On Sunday, we started the morning with a nice brunch at Les Filles after which we strolled to a huge bookstore called Filigranes and I fell in love. This is the kind of bookstore I miss that we no longer have in Finland. I could have spent all day here. However, we decided to walk back towards our hotel and stop at another bookstore on the way called Passa-Porta, which was around the corner from our hotel. Here we actually ended up buying some books that were on sale. For lunch we visited EXKi for some salad. I think I’ve actually stopped by EXKi every time I’ve been to Brussels. Sunday evening we visited my niece’s and her girlfriend’s place for dinner and spent a really lovely last night in Brussels.

Monday morning it was time to head to Bremen, an almost 500 kilometer drive. We had lunch at a service station and this time we opted for Nordsee. When we arrived we settled in at a Best Western hotel after which we headed to the local supermarket to buy some supplies that are clearly cheaper in Germany than in Finland, such as razor blades, electric toothbrush heads, etc. Then it was time to find some place for dinner nearby. We ended up at a place called Bestial and had tasty bruschetta and pasta for dinner. The next morning it was time to head out on the road again and drive to Lund in Sweden. Another drive of nearly 500 kilometers with a ferry connection between Germany and Denmark. We were thinking about driving the longer route and skipping the ferry but as hubby had a teleconference in late afternoon we played it safe.

In Lund we stayed at Scandic Star Lund. While hubby had his meeting I surfed around for dinner options in Lund. I found a few places to choose between so we headed downtown, strolled around for a bit and checked out a few options until we settled for Klostergatans Vin & Delikatess. This was a wonderful find and we had a lovely dinner. We both started with bleak roe, hashbrown, onions & sour cream. My main was an absolutely perfectly cooked fish dish that is no longer on the menu so I cannot say what was in it and hubby had the seared steak tartar with beetroots, capers, onion, mustard, French fries and a red wine sauce. The next morning it was time to head to Stockholm and catch the ferry to Finland. This was the longest drive of slightly over 600 kilometers but we left early to ensure we would not miss our ferry. After we boarded the ferry, found our cabin and got changed, it was time for dinner. We ate at the a’la carte restaurant and had a three-course dinner with wine paring. It started with salt cured whitefish, followed by grilled salmon and dessert was a chocolate parfait. We arrived in Turku early in the morning and drove home to Espoo (another 150 kilometers). This was something different for us travelwise and we had loads of fun.
