Conference in Los Angeles

Work and life have kept me super-busy in recent months. I’ve also suffered from writer’s fatigue. All this resulted in the blog being left on the back burner. With another trip looming in a couple of weeks I felt it was high time to try to catch up on my writing.
Los Angeles in October
I headed to LA for a conference in mid-October. I was so happy to be back in the States after a couple of years. The conference was arranged at the Westin Bonaventure that’s been featured in numerous films and TV shows over the years. I (like most other conference guests) also stayed at the hotel. I arrived in LA late on Tuesday night and the conference started on Wednesday. The conference ran until Saturday and I caught an early morning flight back home on Sunday.

Exploring downtown LA
The days were packed with conference sessions but I did get some time to explore the area around the hotel and took a few hours to visit a mall. I tried to head out a bit every day to enjoy the city and the warm weather. Sadly the days were rather overcast and a bit cooler than I was hoping. Naturally, this was still a manifold better than Finland in October. I visited the Los Angeles Central Library, which was located practically across the street from the hotel. I also walked to city hall and took a ride on the Angels Flight Railway.

Eating out in LA
I took advantage of the continental breakfast offered by the conference almost every day. On Friday morning I opted to head out for breakfast as I had more free time in the morning. I ended up at an American classic, iHop and had some protein pancakes. I headed out for lunch nearly every day but it was mostly quick fares of sandwiches and such. The day I headed to the mall I had a tasty shakshuka for lunch at Café Landwer. I went out for dinner on Friday with some other conference attendees. We visited Grand Central Market. I had fish tacos and a local beer. Grand Central Market was a fun and interesting experience with good food. If you are ever in the area, I recommend you visit it.

The conference was interesting and I really enjoyed LA. I would’ve loved to have more time to explore the city but I’ll go back for that another time. I still have one more trip from 2022 to write about and then on to the adventures of 2023.
