Tip 17: McDonald’s & Starbucks usually offer free Wi-Fi

At least for me, finding free Wi-Fi while traveling is essential. I always book accommodation with free Wi-Fi, which naturally means I don’t need Wi-Fi as much when out and about. However, Wi-Fi is still also necessary when roaming the destination.

Whenever I enter an indoor space (mall, store, café, bar, museum, etc.) I’m inclined to check if they have free Wi-Fi available. These days many places do, but there are still places that do not. The frequency of places that offer free Wi-Fi also depends a lot on the country you are in. Sometimes you do find yourself in a pinch and finding free Wi-Fi seems next to impossible. Don’t fret, look for the golden arches or green circle with a siren inside. Most cities are home to at least one McDonald’s and/or Starbucks and these establishments often offer free Wi-Fi. If you want to avoid visits to these multinational corporations, the Wi-Fi signal is often strong enough to reach outside the door, so you can try to get online while loitering by the entrance. Next to McDonald’s and Starbucks, other chain restaurants, and similar also often have free Wi-Fi.
