Tip 25: Cross pack to avoid being stranded if your luggage is lost

Everyone knows you may lose your luggage when traveling, especially if you have a layover. Personally, I’ve been lucky enough so far to only have lost my luggage when returning home. That’s really no issue as you have more clothes, etc. at home. However, losing your luggage on your outbound trip is far less fun.

When traveling with my hubby we always cross pack so that we have at least some clean clothes in case one of our suitcases is lost. This way we can wait at least one day and then head out to shop for essentials, which will be compensated for from our travel insurance if the luggage hasn’t turned up. So far, our routine has been to pack our individual suitcases and only pack some of each other’s stuff in our suitcase. Another option would be to just pack two suitcases with both of our stuff mixed up, but I prefer individual suitcases. Even mixed packing will still result in some needs if one suitcase is missing as e.g. your toiletries will be in one case.
